At Gener8, I was challenged to create concepts for a small, low cost testing platform that could be used in marginalized communities word-wide. The design has to rely on high volume manufacturing processes so I kept the housing parts to a minimum. The device needed a two button action for a two step timed testing process so I a side by side button approach as shown to the right. The results were well received by Gener8’s engineering team because it was easy to implement in production.

Once we had a working mechanism proven in CAD, We specified high quality appearance models to get buy-in from the customer. They used these, in turn, to get additional funding from their board and potential customers.

Here are some early concepts. You can see the initial one button version of the final design in the lower left. I then refined this concept to the two button version you see a time lapse sketch of above.
